Shingeki no Bahamut Virgin Soul, or Rage of Bahamut Virgin Soul is the second season of Shingeki no Bahamut Genesis. The series was produced by Mappa and based on an online card game, which was made by Cygames. The series is set 10 years after the events of the first anime series.
Ten years ago, humans, gods, and demons joined forces to fight against the threat of the colossal dragon, Bahamut. The creature was sealed again, but not killed. Now, in the present, humans living in the capital city of Anatae, with the help of a new crowned king, have reached unimaginable heights. Charioce XVIInot only enslaved demons and destroyed their capital, but he also weakened gods, because of some unknown technology that he had obtained. Bahamut is still alive, humans, demons and gods are not allies anymore, and the revival of Bahamut is still very likely. Will they forget about the old resentments and bring an end to Bahamut once and for all?
The first season of Shingeki no Bahamut Genesis focused on male characters. Indeed, there were female characters, but they did not have that much of the screen time. The second season of Bahamut, however, is centered on a female character, who heavily influences the storyline and everything, happening in the series. What I am trying to say is that it might be somewhat boring to watch many seasons; there are 2 seasons of the said series and the third season is very likely; with the same characters over and over again. Virgin Soul introduces a new character, who never really is mentioned in the first season. Yet, she is involved in the tragedy, which took place 10 years ago. Long story short. The second season introduces new characters and somewhat changes the story. But it all makes sense and the new events are really interesting to follow. One ‘but’, however, I would like to address is that the new season feels somewhat forced near the end of the series: so many things, happening and so little time to reconsider it, and it leaves some really bad aftertaste in your mouth, when you finish watching the last episode. Of course, the third season, if it ever airs, might make up for it, but right now it seriously influences the assessment of the series.
As for enjoyment, this is an example of a great writing (with one small ‘but’ that I have mentioned already), this is an example of the series, where attention has been paid to every single detail. Yes, it is not perfect, but nothing is.
Overall, I highly recommend this series for people, who are looking for an epic journey to the world of gods, demons and humans, working together to save the world from its annihilation. That goes without saying, it is somewhat weird in a sense that it is different form the first season, but it is very enjoyable experience, you should give a try to.
A very weak 10/10.
