The series focuses on Hina and her friends. Hina dislikes leaving home, but one day, she meets upperclassman Kuroiwa and joins the mysterious ‘Embankment Club’. She now fishes with her fellow club members and eats their catches. The problem, however, is that Hina has a phobia of sea creatures.
Cute girls do cute things. It seems that this genre is a source of never-ending ideas and that there will not be a year with no ‘cute girls do cute things’ anime series. The anime has neither a plot to brag about, nor the characters to be unique enough for me to say that it is a masterpiece that you will only find once in a while. It is just that relaxing slice of life, with some random comedy. However, there is one thing to highly appreciate and this is the fact that this anime series tries to show the viewer the joy of fishing, explaining many important details to keep in mind about this activity and Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater does it quite well.
Character wise, it is another reason to appreciate this series, at least for me. Hina Tsurugi has a phobia of sea creatures; all these sea monstrosities, I quite understand the reason for Hina to be afraid of these things. And this is what Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater is about; a heartwarming slice of life about one girl, who has to fight her phobia and enjoy club activities together with her friends. After all, it is our friends, who help us change ourselves, as well as they are the reason for us acting reckless. However, this is what makes our lives better and brighter.
All in all, watching this show little by little works wonders and is quite enjoyable, I must say. A must watch for hardcore slice of life/cute girls do cute things fans.
