Fate/Grand Order - Absolute Demonic Battlefront: Babylonia is a Japanese fantasy anime series produced by CloverWorks (Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, Yakusoku no Neverland, DARLING in the FRANXX), which adapts Aniplex's role-playing mobile game Fate/Grand Order. The series aired in Japan on October 5, 2019. The final episode aired on March 21, 2020.
Due to the success in the Camelot Singularity, Kyrielight Mash and Fujimaru Ritsuka are assigned to the last Singularity. In Ancient Mesopotamia, B.C. 2655, they commence a mission to secure humanity's survival. When they arrive, they learn about the three Goddesses that threaten the city of Uruk, the Babylonian cityruled by King Gilgamesh. Ritsuka and Mash will now need to find a way to severe the alliance between the three Goddesses and stop the blood-thirsty beasts that threaten the future of the humanity.
As mentioned before, basically, Fate/Grand Order - Absolute Demonic Battlefront: Babylonia adapts the Aniplex's mobile game, which is the second mobile game adaptation after Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis I will remember for a long-long time. The reason for that is the fact that the storyline actually makes perfect sense. So, one day, King Solomon decides to wipe humanity from existence, and Chaldea, a contemporary mage organization tasked with protecting humanity, is the only force able to stop this. In order to wipe humans as if they never existed, Solomon sent 7 Holy Grails to various points in the past in order to create 7 Singularities that will destabilize the humanity's future enough to annihilate the living. Fujimaru Ritsuka, has to travel to these singularities to retrieve these Grails, collapse 'wrong' Singularities, and return the history of mankind back to what it was in the past. Of course, he will be aided by the heroic spirits during his quest.
Animation wise, an absolute eye candy, a pure masterpiece. A lot of beautiful action scenes, with a splendid movement of the camera and a ton of visual effects. And while action scenes do look awesome, character designs are, too, amazingly well drawn. So many details have been paid to every character in Fate/Grand Order - Absolute Demonic Battlefront: Babylonia that the series does look amazing. Sound wise, absolutely flawless and nothing to complain of. Opening and ending scenes, as well as the OST and superb voice acting leave nothing for me to criticize here.
Character wise, there are so many characters to keep in mind, when watching the series that it is sometimes difficult to keep up. Anyways, they all receive enough development, not a single character can be called boring, or average. However, the only somewhat small flaw I happen to notice is the fact that Fujimaru Ritsuka and Kyrielight Mash just look not as interesting as other characters. More than that Fujimaru Ritsuka's indetermination is sometimes... quite annoying. Luckily, it does not last that long and during the course of the series he actually changes and becomes more interesting protagonist to follow. Yet, it still does not change the fact that some supporting characters are more interesting than the main cast. Not much of a problem to care about, just a minor flaw.
All in all, Fate/Grand Order - Absolute Demonic Battlefront: Babylonia is not a Fate series by Ufotable, but the visuals are of just as high of a quality and instantly recognizable for those familiar with the Fate series. Clearly, no expense has been spared in the making of this adaptation, so it does deserve the beginning of its name. The series, while not flawless, nothing is, is something Fate fans and just anime fans that like awesome actions scenes will highly appreciate. I could not find anything to criticize this series for, but I found it slightly dissatisfying that some of the supporting characters are more interesting than the main protagonists. Hence, I believe that Fate/Grand Order - Absolute Demonic Battlefront: Babylonia deserves 9/10.
