You must know the name. Namco Bandai’s ‘Tales of’ series is 27 something games, animated series, OVAs and a movie; ‘Tales of’ also has quite a huge fanbase around the world. Tales of the Abyss is the 8th game in the series.
Luke fon Fabre has a life many would love to have: he is the only son of a duke, his uncle is the King of his country and Luke’s fiancée is actually the daughter of that King. However, one day, his life changes, when he meets a mysterious young woman named Tear. Luke learns about the world and embarks on a questto make things right. But being a hero is not an easy task: many heroes are betrayed and achieve nothing. What will Luke learn about the world and will he be able to save the world?
Tales of the Abyss is worth your attention, because it manages to deviate from the expected formula often enough to surprise the viewer. To begin with, the very beginning of the series is nothing but clichés. And this might even make you think of giving up on this series. However, ‘Tales of’ series is great for a reason. After some time, the main protagonist of the series changes and he changes so much that you might even think that you are watching some other series. After that, let’s say, Luke becomes the new person and he also changes the whole series, so it becomes interesting to watch.
And not only Luke, but also other main protagonists and supporting characters show quite good development. But that is not as important as the world building in the Abyss. Tales of the Abyss has an amazingly well-build world, which shows how insignificant humans are. However, continuing my idea and proving my point will lead to spoilers, so this will be for you to do, when you watch the series.
All in all, a very interesting and a unique ‘Tales of’ animated piece. It does have a horrible start, but the series does it for a reason. It is done for the viewer to see how Luke, one of the main protagonists of the series, changes during the anime and how he changes the world. With that being said, even if you know nothing about the ‘Tales of’ series, you can still watch it even if you know nothing about it. If you are a fan of big and beautiful adventures, do give Tales of the Abyss a try, it is worth your time.
